Mulvane Women's Cross Country grabs 3 first team All League spots and League Title

MHS - Cross Country / October 29, 2017 By Kasey McDowell

After battling some injuries this season, Coach Landes was pleased to see the ladies tough it out at the AVCTL League meet on October 21st. "Our group of girls really came together for the League Meet and we were excited about winning another league championship." remarked Coach Landes.

The ladies grabbed 3 First Team All League spots and 2 Second Team spots. Senior Erika Landes led the Wildcats with a 3rd place finish (23:34) and a 1st Team All League award. Right behind Erika was Sophomore Josie Russell for a 4th place finish (23:53) and a 1st Team All League award. Right on Josie's tail was Freshman Anna Moon with a 5th place finish (23:58) and a 1st Team All League award.

Senior Katie Hayes grabbed 10th place (24:57) and a 2nd Team All League award and Sophomore Karstyn Nolan finished 14th place (25:52) and a 2nd Team All League award. Just missing out on the all league selection was Senior Madison Jacobs with a 15 place finish (26:09) and Freshman Kate Helton finished at 19th place (27:29) for the Cats.

Together, the Ladycats finished in 1st place with 23 points over Andale (48 points) and Rose Hill (56 points) for the league title. The ladies grabbed the league title in the 2016-17 season with 40 points in the league meet with the closest opponent with 60 points.

Unfortunately none of the ladies qualified for State at the Regional meet. Erika Landes turned in the best time for the Cats with a 23:02 and 17th place. As a team, the Wildcats finished in 4th place behind Andale (1st), Circle (2nd), and Wichita Trinity (3rd).

Anna Moon led the Ladycats with an average time of 22:29 over the season but missed several meets due to injury. Erika Landes, who herself battled knee injury issues, finished her senior season with 22:32 average time. Jodie Russell had the third best average of 23:13 over the season.

The team will graduate 3 seniors this year but Landes is looking forward to the future with some good underclassmen turning in good times.
