Sophomore Schiffelbein takes state; Junior Titus 6th place

MHS - Bowling / March 4, 2017 By Kasey McDowell

The Mulvane Bowling team had another exceptional season and post-season this year with the mens team placing 4th at the league tournament, but finishing the season as league champions. Kael Titus was tournament champion (All League-1st Team) and Ryan Dixson placed 13th (2nd Team).  The women's team placed 2nd at the league tournament and finished 2nd overall in the league. Addy Schiffelbein medaled 2nd with 1st team honors. Katie Gile medaled 7th, also 1st team.

At Regionals, the men's team won the regional tournament and qualified for state. Gauge Harness was the individual champion with a 707 series and Garrett moon medaled 7th. The women's team did not qualify for state as a team, but Senior Katie Gile, Junior Kayleigh Cuiksa, and Sophomore Addy Schiffelbein all qualified individually for state.

At state, Addy Schiffelbein shocked the crowd with three impressive games at 201-212-208 for a 621 series. It was a waiting game after that until all the numbers came in. “I hate seeing the numbers, because then I start thinking what I have to do and if I don’t do it, then I get down on myself,” Schiffelbein said. “I just don’t want to worry about the numbers.” Turned out that her 621 was enough to take the individual state title. “Once it got in the 600s, I was so nervous, my heart was pounding,” Schiffelbein said of the announcements. “I thought I was second honestly, but then I found out I won and I was like, ‘OMG!’ ”  Addy's state title is the first for Mulvane Bowling. Kayleigh Cuiksa placed 18th with a 506 series.

The mens team placed 9th with a 2,791 (Kael Titus 613, Ryan Dixon 486, Garrett Moon 486, Gauge Harness 483, Jared Titus 456, Austin O’Daniel 443). Kael's 613 series earned him a 6th place medal.
